Le Mans 24 Hours for the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, developed by MTO and published by Infogrames. It was one of the few racing titles on the handheld that tried to capture the scale and endurance of real motorsport, at a time when most portable racers focused on quick arcade action.
You control a prototype race car, aiming to complete the full 24 hour race at the Circuit de la Sarthe. The game uses a screen by screen progression system, where each segment of the track is displayed individually, requiring careful memorization of corners and braking points. You manage fuel and tire wear, making strategic pit stops to stay competitive. The day night cycle changes visibility dramatically, especially on the unlit Game Boy Color screen, adding a layer of tension after sunset.
