Start as Frodo smashing barrels in the Shire, then suddenly you're dodging Nazgûl while Gandalf yells at you to run. The DS somehow fits all of Middle-earth into one cart—you'll build bridges, chuck Gimli at enemies, and still get lost in Moria.
Game Overview
LEGO Lord of the Rings on DS is basically the whole epic trilogy crammed into your pocket, with that classic LEGO game charm. You start off in the Shire as Frodo, smashing barrels and building little LEGO structures like it’s no big deal—until, of course, Gandalf shows up and ruins your peaceful hobbit life with that cursed ring.
It’s got all the usual LEGO game stuff—switching between characters to solve puzzles, collecting studs, and accidentally whacking your companions with a sword mid-battle. The DS version keeps the open-world feel surprisingly well, letting you wander around Middle-earth between story missions. And yeah, you’ll still get stuck figuring out where to use that Elven rope for the hundredth time.
No goofy slapstick like in other LEGO games, but there’s still something hilarious about watching LEGO Gollum dramatically whisper to himself in 8-bit. The little character bios hidden in levels are a nice touch if you actually care about Gimli’s backstory. Just don’t expect it to look as pretty as the console versions—this is DS, after all.
It’s a solid way to kill time if you’re into LOTR and don’t mind some janky DS graphics.
