Play Lifeforce (U) [p1] Online
Battle through organic and mechanical levels in a side-scrolling and vertical shooter hybrid.
Lifeforce came out for the NES in 1988, published by Konami. It was part of that wave of late 80s shooters that tried to push the hardware, often by building on established formulas from arcade hits. This one is a direct follow-up to the Gradius series, though it carries its own name and some distinct ideas.
You pilot a ship through horizontally and vertically scrolling stages, firing at waves of alien creatures and intricate mechanical bosses. Your main goal is simply survival, clearing each hazardous area to progress. The power-up system is central; you collect capsules to add options, or "multiples," that mirror your shots, and you can upgrade your main weapon's spread and speed. The pacing is relentless, with enemy patterns that demand quick reflexes and memorization. It feels like a constant, tense negotiation between aggressive firing and careful dodging.
