Game Overview

Konami released Lifeforce in 1986 for the arcades, a time when side scrolling shooters were common but rarely this strange. It was a follow up to their hit Gradius, sharing the same universe but taking the action inside a giant biological organism instead of outer space.

You pilot the Vic Viper through the twisting, organic corridors of a colossal alien life form. Your goal is simple: survive, shoot everything that moves, and destroy the core at the end of each stage. The game constantly shifts perspective, flipping from horizontal to vertical scrolling without warning, forcing you to adapt your dodging on the fly. You collect power up capsules to upgrade your weapons, building a spread shot, lasers, and options that follow your ship and multiply your firepower. The pace is relentless, with intricate enemy patterns and narrow passageways that demand precise movement. It feels like a frantic, claustrophobic race against a living, breathing opponent.
