Live A Live came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Square. It was a strange, ambitious project for its time, a collection of short stories instead of one long epic. You don't see many games from that era structured like it, with seven completely different protagonists and settings.

You control a different hero in each chapter, from a wandering martial artist to a pilot on a doomed spaceship. Your main goal is to complete each character's self-contained story, which involves screen-by-screen exploration, solving environmental puzzles, and engaging in grid-based combat where positioning is everything. The pacing and difficulty vary wildly between chapters; some are tense stealth missions, while others are more straightforward dungeon delves. It feels like playing through a series of experimental short films, each one leaving a distinct impression.
