Luminous Arc 2 is one of those DS strategy RPGs that somehow makes grinding through grid battles feel personal. You play as Roland, a knight-in-training who accidentally gets magic powers—classic JRPG luck—and gets thrown into a war against these creepy Beast Fiends. The twist? You can "engage" with elemental witches mid-battle, which sounds way more dramatic than it is—basically, you borrow their spells and stat boosts, but it does add some fun tactical layers.
The story’s got that classic "ancient evil returns" vibe, but with witches causing chaos and a magic association that’s clearly hiding something. And yeah, there’s a demon blade involved. Of course there is. The writing’s cheesy in that endearing way, especially with the hot spring side missions (because no JRPG is complete without awkward fan service).
What I like is how your choices with the two main heroines actually matter—different endings, different battle perks. And if you played the first game, spotting the cameos is a nice little nod. The Kopin interludes are still weird as ever, though. If you’re into tactical battles with a side of anime melodrama, this one’s a solid time-killer for your DS.
