Lunar Genesis, known in Japan as Lunar: Dragon Song, came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005. It was developed by Artoon, the studio behind a few other action RPGs of that era. The DS was still pretty new then, and this was one of the earlier attempts to bring a classic-style JRPG to the dual screen portables.
You control Jian, a young courier who gets wrapped up in a conflict between humans and beastmen. The main goal involves delivering items, exploring towns and overworld areas, and delving into multi level dungeons. Combat uses a timing based action system where you tap or swipe for attacks, and the touchscreen is used for some inventory and puzzle interactions. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of backtracking, and the difficulty can feel uneven in places. Playing it feels like slowly uncovering a quiet, personal story set against a larger world in decline.
