Play Lux-Pain (US)(PYRiDiA) Online
You play as a psychic detective scrubbing the DS screen to dig up people’s darkest thoughts—their smiles hide creepy secrets, and sometimes you’re not sure what’s real.

Lux-Pain came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, published by Ignition Entertainment. It was part of that wave of DS games that really leaned into the touchscreen, offering something a little different from the usual RPG or puzzle titles. The setting is Kisaragi City, a place plagued by a mysterious silent threat, and you step into the role of Atsuki Saijo, an agent with a unique psychic ability.
You control Atsuki as he investigates the city, interacting with residents to uncover clues. Your main tool is the "Silent Knife," which you use by physically scrubbing the lower screen to reveal and extract hidden fragments of negative emotion, called "Silent." The game blends visual novel style dialogue with these investigative touch sequences; you scan environments and people, peeling back layers of ordinary life to find disturbing truths underneath. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, with a focus on unraveling the story through repeated probing. It feels like slowly brushing dust off an old photograph, only to find something unsettling hidden in the image.
