Majuu Ou is one of those SNES games that feels like it crawled out of a dark corner of a 90s arcade—gritty, punishing, and weirdly beautiful. You’re some lone warrior hacking through a kingdom overrun by demons, swinging swords and tossing spells while the screen fills up with these grotesque pixel-art monsters. The first time I played, I got wrecked in about 30 seconds by a giant bat. Classic.
It’s got that Castlevania vibe but with more branching paths, so you’re not just marching left to right. Some stages loop back or split off, which is cool until you realize you picked the harder route by accident. The music’s all eerie chimes and deep bass, like someone recorded it in a haunted cathedral. Not gonna lie, it’s brutal—but in that satisfying way where every checkpoint feels earned. If you’re into 16-bit games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a trip.
