Play Maxit Online
You take turns snagging numbers from a grid, but each move locks you into a row or column—the AI’s always one step ahead, leaving you stuck with the negatives you didn’t see coming.

Maxit came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Vladimir Pokhilko. It was a simple but clever puzzle game from that era, the kind of thing you'd load up between bigger titles or when you just wanted something to think about for a few minutes. It didn't have flashy graphics or a complex story; it was just numbers and strategy on a plain grid.
You control a cursor to select numbers from a grid, alternating turns with the computer opponent. The main objective is to outscore the AI by the time the grid is empty. Your moves are constrained; after picking a number, you must stay in that row or column for your next selection, forcing you to plan several steps ahead. The computer is ruthlessly efficient, often cornering you into taking negative values that tank your score. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, as you try to minimize losses while the board shrinks. It feels like a quiet battle of wits where every decision matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
