Game Overview

Mega Games I came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Sega themselves. It was one of those compilation cartridges that felt like a good deal back then, bundling a few games together so you didn't have to swap carts as often. This was right in the thick of the 16-bit era, when Sega was pushing hard with arcade-style experiences you could play at home.

You control different characters depending on the game; in Super Monaco GP you're a race car driver, in Columns you're just stacking gems, and in Super Hang-On you're leaning a motorcycle around sharp turns. The main objective shifts with each title, from winning a grand prix to matching colored stones before the screen fills up. Signature mechanics include the tight, responsive handling in the racing games and the simple but compulsive tile-matching of Columns. The pacing is generally fast, especially in the arcade ports, and the difficulty can spike pretty hard in later stages. It feels like having a little slice of the arcade right in your living room, no quarters needed.
