Mega Man III for the Game Boy came out in 1992 from Capcom, a time when handheld games were getting more ambitious. It was part of a small but solid run of portable Mega Man titles that tried to capture the feel of the console games, with a few compromises for the smaller screen and hardware.

You control Mega Man, running and jumping through stages, shooting enemies with your arm cannon. The goal is to defeat eight robot masters, each in their own themed stage, before taking on Dr. Wily. Key mechanics include screen by screen platforming, collecting power-ups from downed enemies, and gaining new weapons after each boss. The pacing is brisk, but the difficulty can spike, especially in some of the later stages. It feels satisfying to master the timing of jumps and shots, even when the small screen makes some threats hard to see coming.
