Mega Man Xtreme came out for the Game Boy Color in 2001, developed and published by Capcom. You control X, navigating side-scrolling stages screen by screen, jumping and shooting through robotic enemies and environmental hazards. The main goal is to defeat eight Maverick bosses, acquire their special weapons, and use those abilities to progress through later stages and overcome specific obstacles. Signature mechanics include choosing which four Mavericks to tackle first, then revisiting stages with new weapons to access previously unreachable areas; the game also incorporates a chip system that lets you equip upgrades for abilities like charged shots or enhanced armor. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can feel sharp, especially with the smaller screen and limited visibility.
