Metal Max Returns is basically the original NES game but way prettier and less punishing. They gave it a full SNES glow-up—the sprites actually look like something now, and the soundtrack doesn’t sound like it’s coming from a tin can. Best part? They dialed back the difficulty just enough that you won’t rage-quit after the first hour.
You start off customizing your tank (always pick the medium chassis first—trust me) and then it’s straight into the wasteland to hunt bounties or just wreck random monsters for cash. The open-world thing was way ahead of its time—you can ignore the main story completely and just goof off upgrading your ride if you want. Just watch out for those sandworms near the starting town; they’ll wreck you early on.
