Game Overview

Metal Saver came out in 1992 for arcades, developed by Arcade Innovators. It was one of those side-scrolling action games that felt right at home in the early 90s, when developers were still figuring out how to make co-op brawlers feel fresh. You could pick between two characters, Hanbit or Narae, and the game threw you right into a sci-fi setting with some pretty bold sprite work for the time.

You control either Hanbit, who kicks enemies across the screen, or Narae, who uses a blaster to knock them back. The main goal is to clear each stage by defeating all the enemies, who often ricochet off walls and each other like pinballs. One of the signature mechanics is how you can juggle foes by timing your attacks to keep them bouncing; another is the screen by screen progression, where you canโ€™t move forward until you clear the current area. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty spikes hard, especially during boss fights like the giant spider that still makes me panic. It feels chaotic but satisfying when you pull off a long combo.
