Metal Slug 5 is pure, chaotic arcade fun—the kind where you’re blasting through waves of enemies, hopping into tanks that feel way too powerful, and laughing at the ridiculous animations when your character gets turned into a skeleton or a balloon. The Ptolemaic Army stole some top-secret Metal Slug tech, so it’s up to Marco and the crew to shoot first and ask questions never.
What I love about this one is how it throws weird surprises at you—like that level where you’re suddenly sliding down a desert slope dodging giant scorpions. The sprites are packed with silly little details, and the weapons feel stupidly satisfying to use (flame shot forever). It’s not the deepest game, but who cares when you’re mowing down helicopters with a vulcan cannon?
Just don’t expect to beat it on one credit unless you’ve got Neo Geo-level skills (or save states).
