Game Overview

Metroid Alpha is a fan made hack of the original Metroid, which was released by Nintendo for the NES in 1986. It takes the core structure of that game and reworks the level layouts, offering a fresh path through the planet Zebes. This kind of modification was a common way for dedicated players to extend the life of classic titles long after their initial release.

You control Samus Aran, a bounty hunter exploring a large, interconnected world. The main objective remains to defeat the Metroids and their mother, but the journey to find them is completely different. Signature mechanics include screen by screen exploration, collecting power ups like the Morph Ball and missiles to access new areas, and intense combat against alien creatures. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring careful backtracking, and the difficulty can be punishing if you get lost. It feels like rediscovering a familiar place through an entirely new set of corridors.
