Man, Michael Andretti's IndyCar Challenge on SNES still holds up. The second you hit the gas, that IndyCar engine whine kicks in and you're immediately wrestling with the weight of the car—none of that arcadey floaty stuff. Tracks like Indianapolis feel massive, and if you don't nail your braking points, you'll be eating wall before the first turn.
What I love is how it walks this perfect line between sim and arcade. You've got tire wear and fuel strategy, but the controls are tight enough that you can actually recover when you screw up (and you will). Drafting behind opponents actually matters, which makes overtaking on those long straights so satisfying. And yeah, no Mario Kart mushrooms here—just pure, white-knuckle racing where the only power-up is your own skill.
Fun detail: The cockpit view shakes violently at high speeds, which somehow makes clipping 200mph feel even more terrifying. Still one of the best SNES racers if you ask me.
