Game Overview

Miner 2049er Volume II came out for the Atari 2600 in 1983, developed by Big Five Software. It was one of those sequels that tried to build on the original's platforming ideas, arriving at a time when the system's library was still growing but starting to show its age. You don't hear much about it now, but back then it was another cartridge you might rent or borrow if you'd already played through the more common titles.

You control Bounty Bob, moving screen by screen through a multi-level mine. Your goal is to claim each stage by walking across every platform, while avoiding mutants, crushers, and patches of radioactive waste. The game introduces elevators and transporters, adding some variety to the usual running and jumping. It moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty ramps up quickly; one wrong move often means starting the screen over. It feels tense and methodical, like a careful dance with the machinery and hazards of each stage.
