Minivader came out in 1985 as an arcade cabinet release from Galactic Games Inc. It was part of that wave of single-screen shooters that filled arcades before sprawling, multi-stage games took over. You don't get a story or elaborate settings; it's just you, a small ship, and a grid of descending enemies.
You control a tiny triangular ship at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to avoid enemy fire while shooting upward to clear each wave. The main objective is to survive as long as possible, racking up points by destroying the patterned formations of invaders before they reach the bottom. Its signature mechanics include the screen-by-screen progression, where each new wave introduces more aggressive enemy firing patterns, and the occasional appearance of a bonus ship that zips across the top for extra points. The pacing is relentless; the difficulty spikes quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and memorization of attack sequences. It feels like a tense, twitchy dance where one wrong move ends everything.
