Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by Game Republic and published by Sony. It was part of that early wave of PSP RPGs, arriving when the system was still building its library of deeper, more involved games. You could tell it was aiming for a certain kind of player, the one who wanted a solid turn-based experience to carry around.

You control a summoner, moving through towns and dungeons screen by screen, talking to people and fighting monsters to progress the story. Your main goal is to gather jewels, each of which contains a monster you can summon and command in battle. The core mechanics involve fusing these monsters together to create new, more powerful hybrids with combined elemental attributes and skills. The pacing is deliberate, and some of the later boss fights demand careful team construction and strategy. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes punishing puzzle where your planning is constantly tested.
