Game Overview
Montezuma’s Return on Game Boy feels like a mix of nostalgia and something fresh—it’s basically a reworked version of the classic Montezuma’s Revenge, but with way more levels (150 total, most of them new). The camera’s zoomed in closer now, so the screen scrolls as you move instead of showing the whole level at once. Same old premise, though: you’re this treasure-hunting adventurer sneaking through a pyramid, grabbing loot while dodging enemies left and right.
No fancy combat here—unless you stumble on one of those rare daggers, you’re just jumping and climbing to avoid everything. Some rooms lock you in until you find keys, others throw conveyor belts or vanishing platforms at you, and the clock’s always ticking. There are power-ups that let you ghost through enemies or even take them out by touch, but they don’t last long. One wrong jump or a careless run-in with a baddie, and you’re done. It’s simple, but the level designs keep you on your toes.
