I picked up Montezuma's Return on the Game Boy Color back in 1999, developed by Teque London. It was one of those isometric puzzle platformers that felt right at home on the handheld, a style that was pretty common at the time but always had its own charm. You control an adventurer exploring ancient temples, screen by screen, with the goal of collecting keys to unlock the exit in each level. The isometric perspective makes judging jumps tricky; you have to time your moves carefully to avoid traps like falling boulders and spike pits. Combat is simple, using a sword or bow to defeat enemies, but the real challenge comes from the environmental puzzles and precise platforming. The pacing is methodical, and some sections demand real patience. It feels satisfying to finally solve a room that had you stuck for a while.
