Play Mr Nutz on GB Online

You're a squirrel whipping enemies with your tail, hopping between wobbly platforms, and figuring out hidden paths before a yeti freezes everything. That circus level still tricks me into missing jumps.

Game Overview

Mr Nutz on the Game Boy came out in 1994 from Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of mascot platformers that tried to capture some of the Sonic and Mario energy, but on a handheld. The screen is small, the colors are limited, but it had a certain charm that made you keep playing on car trips or under the covers with a worm light.

You control a squirrel named Mr. Nutz, and your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend by navigating through a series of themed worlds. The gameplay involves a lot of running and jumping across precarious platforms, whipping enemies with your tail, and collecting acorns and other items for points and extra lives. The levels are designed screen by screen, with some hidden areas and tricky enemy placements that require careful timing. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in later stages with environmental hazards like ice or wind. It feels like a solid, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately rewarding challenge from that era.
