Game Overview

Naki no Ryuu: Mahjong Hishouden came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, developed by Natsume and published by Taito. It was part of a wave of Japanese mahjong games on the console, offering a dedicated single-player experience at a time when many players outside Japan were still unfamiliar with the rich tile-based strategy of riichi mahjong.

You take on the role of a rising mahjong player aiming to climb the ranks through a series of matches against increasingly skilled opponents. The main objective is to win hands by forming specific tile combinations, declaring riichi when you're one tile away from victory, and reading your rivals' discards to avoid feeding them wins. The AI adapts to your style, so careless plays get punished quickly; matches demand focus, and the pacing is deliberate, almost tense. It feels like a genuine test of wits, where every discard matters and a well-timed win brings real satisfaction.
