Game Overview

NBA Jam hit the Super Nintendo in 1993, a Midway arcade port that felt right at home on the system. It arrived during a time when sports games were getting more complex, but this one kept things simple and loud. You picked a two-player team from the NBA roster, and the game immediately threw you into a fast, exaggerated version of basketball.

You control one player at a time, switching between your two teammates with a button press. The main goal is to outscore the opponent before the clock runs out. Signature mechanics include the turbo button for bursts of speed, shoving opponents to steal the ball, and pulling off absurd dunks from far beyond the key. The pacing is relentless; the computer rarely lets up, and comebacks are always possible if you get hot. It feels like controlled chaos, a game where every possession could end with a backboard-shattering jam.
