NBA Showtime is basically NBA Jam’s rowdy younger sibling—same over-the-top dunks and arcade chaos, but with a few extra tricks. You’ve got alley-oops, spin moves, and even double dunks that make no physical sense (in the best way). The "On-Fire" mechanic is back too, so once you hit a hot streak, your player starts sinking ridiculous half-court shots like it’s nothing.

What’s cool is the roster—it’s packed with late ‘90s NBA stars, plus unlockable mascots and, in the arcade version, weird secret characters like Frankenstein’s monster dunking on Shaq. The home version swapped those out for updated rosters, but you still get the Create-a-Player mode, where you can tweak a custom baller’s stats by winning games. Feels like a sneaky way to make you keep playing just to max out your guy’s dunk rating.

It’s pure arcade nonsense, right down to the exaggerated animations and cheesy commentary. If you miss the days when basketball games cared more about fun than realism, this one’s a time capsule.
