Showtime Championship Boxing came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, published by Atari. It was part of that wave of sports titles trying to make real use of the touchscreen, back when developers were still figuring out what the hardware could do. It didn't have the big name recognition of some other boxing games, but it carved out its own space for people who wanted something a bit more hands-on.

You control a boxer from a third-person view, using the stylus and face buttons to throw punches, block, and move around the ring. The main goal is to win matches by knockout or decision, working your way up through different weight classes. The signature mechanics are the touchscreen punching, where you swipe the stylus to throw jabs and hooks, and the parry system that lets you deflect incoming attacks if you time it right. The pacing is deliberate, almost strategic; you can't just swing wildly or you'll get countered hard. It feels like a thinking person's brawl, where every connected punch is earned.
