Konami released Nemesis for the Game Boy in 1990, bringing the Gradius series to Nintendo's handheld. It arrived during a time when portable games often felt like smaller, compromised versions of their console or arcade counterparts. You pilot the Vic Viper through side-scrolling stages filled with Moai heads and organic alien structures. Your main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. You collect power-up capsules to build your arsenal, choosing between speed boosts, missiles, lasers, or options; those floating orbs that mirror your shots. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise dodging and smart power-up management. It feels like holding a concentrated burst of arcade tension right in your hands.
