Game Overview

If you've ever wanted to get swept into a beautifully drawn version of ancient Japan with a supernatural twist, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de on the GBA is the perfect little escape. You play as a modern girl who suddenly finds herself in this mystical world—and of course, there are eight ridiculously charming guardians (each with their own backstory and elemental powers) who may or may not steal your heart along the way.

The battles are turn-based but not too punishing, so you can focus more on the story and figuring out which guardian you vibe with most. Some of them are all brooding and mysterious, others are sweet and poetic—I restarted halfway through because I regretted my first choice. The art’s gorgeous for a GBA game, and the writing actually makes you care about the world and its politics, not just the romance.

It’s one of those games where you keep playing just to see how your decisions ripple through the story. And yeah, there’s definitely some swooning involved.
