If you grew up watching The New Batman Adventures in the late '90s, this Game Boy Color game is like finding an old VHS tape in your closet—pure nostalgia. You’re basically just running left to right punching thugs and dodging traps, but the pixel art somehow captures that moody, angular look of the cartoon perfectly. The first time Harley Quinn pops up with her giant mallet, you’ll grin.
It’s not exactly deep—you’ve got your basic punches, a batarang, and some awkward wall jumps—but the boss fights against guys like Mr. Freeze and Joker feel ripped straight from the show. Fair warning: some of the platforming is janky, and the difficulty spikes hard in later levels. Still, for a portable Batman brawler from 2001, it holds up better than you’d expect.
I used to play this in the backseat during road trips, pretending the car’s overhead light was the Bat-Signal. That’s the kind of charm we’re dealing with here.
