NHL 2004 came out for the GameCube in 2003, developed and published by EA Sports. It was part of that generation where hockey games started to feel more complete, with deeper modes and smoother presentation, fitting right in with other sports titles on the system at the time.

You control all five skaters and the goalie, directing plays, setting up shots, and trying to outscore the opponent. The main goal is to win games, of course, but the Dynasty Mode adds a long term layer where you manage team finances, trades, and player morale over multiple seasons. On the ice, the right analog stick handles dekes and puck handling, giving you more precise control than before, and the enforcer engine lets you initiate fights with a button press, changing momentum after big hits. The pace is quick but manageable, with a difficulty that pushes you to think strategically rather than just rush the net. It feels responsive and tense, especially in close games where one mistake can cost you the period.
