Nostalgia on the DS is one of those hidden gem RPGs that slipped under the radar for a lot of people. You start off as this rookie adventurer in a world where airships are basically the main mode of transport—think Final Fantasy meets Jules Verne, with all the cogs and goggles you'd expect from steampunk.
The combat’s turn-based but snappy, and I love how your party actually fights from inside the airship during battles. The first time an enemy ship swooped in and the camera panned to this dramatic side view, I was hooked. There’s something oddly satisfying about upgrading your ship’s weapons between exploring ruins and piecing together the story.
It’s not perfect—some of the dungeons drag a bit—but the writing has this old-school charm, and the pixel art holds up surprisingly well. If you miss the days when RPGs didn’t overcomplicate things, this one’s a solid time capsule.
