Okamiden came out for the Nintendo DS in 2010, developed by Capcom. It was a direct sequel to Okami, and it arrived late in the DS's life, a time when the handheld was full of creative, stylus-driven games. You control Chibiterasu, a young sun god in the form of a wolf pup, accompanied by a series of partner characters who ride on your back. Your main goal is to cleanse a land once again shrouded in darkness, traveling across a connected world map and through screen-by-screen areas. The core action involves real-time combat against demons, solved by using your divine instruments or, more importantly, the Celestial Brush. You draw symbols on the touch screen to perform miracles: slashing enemies, creating bombs, or painting in the sun or a gust of wind. The pacing is generally relaxed, with puzzles and exploration taking precedence over difficult combat. It feels like guiding a determined, magical child through a storybook world that reacts to every stroke of your hand.
