Game Overview
One Piece: Gigant Battle is basically the closest you'll get to smashing your favorite Straw Hats into each other on the DS. It's a chaotic 2D fighter where you pick a duo from the One Piece universe—Luffy and Zoro, Law and Kid, whoever—and just go wild with their signature moves. The sprites are chunky and full of personality, and pulling off a Gum-Gum Gatling never gets old.
What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in between the button-mashing. Swapping between your two characters at the right moment or using support attacks from the sidelines can turn the tide. Also, the stages have these weird interactive elements—like getting launched by a cannon in Alabasta—that keep matches unpredictable. It’s definitely a love letter to pre-timeskip One Piece fans.
Just don’t expect a deep story mode. The Japanese text might throw you off if you’re not familiar with the language, but the menus are simple enough to navigate by icons alone. Perfect for quick battles between classes or on the bus.
