I picked up One Piece for the Game Boy Advance back in 2005, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. Bandai published it, and it was one of those titles that felt like it was trying to capture the spirit of the early manga arcs without a huge budget. You control Monkey D. Luffy, and later Zoro and Nami, as you move through levels screen by screen, punching and kicking your way through waves of Marines and Baroque Works agents. The main goal is straightforward: fight through each stage, defeat the boss waiting at the end, and move the story forward. You can switch between characters during combat, which changes up your attack style; Luffy uses his stretchy punches, Zoro slashes with three swords, and Nami relies on quicker, evasive moves. The pacing is brisk, and some bosses, like Buggy, require you to watch their patterns and time your strikes instead of just attacking constantly. It feels like a straightforward, energetic brawler that doesn't overcomplicate things.
