Play Operation Combat Online
Squad-based MS-DOS tactics where every wrong move gets your team shredded—you'll inch forward, take potshots from cover, and regret rushing in like an amateur.

Operation Combat is one of those MS-DOS classic games that came out in the early 90s, a time when strategy titles were starting to find their footing on home computers. I don't recall the developer offhand, but it fits right in with that era of squad based tactical simulations where planning mattered more than reflexes. You control a small team of soldiers dropped into hostile territory, and the goal is straightforward: complete your mission and extract everyone alive.
You direct each soldier individually, moving them across grid based maps, using cover for protection, and engaging enemies with a variety of weapons. The main objective changes from mission to mission, sometimes requiring you to secure an area, other times to destroy a target or rescue hostages. Key mechanics include managing line of sight for both your team and the enemy, as well as conserving limited ammunition and medkits. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, because rushing usually means watching your squad get picked apart. It feels tense and methodical, rewarding careful positioning over bold charges.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
