P.O.W. - Prisoners of War came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed by SNK. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling action games that filled rental shelves, not especially flashy but solid and straightforward. You played as a captured soldier, and the goal was simple: escape.
You control this muscled guy in a tank top, punching and kicking your way through guards. The main objective is to fight from the left side of the screen to the right, clearing each area before moving on. You can pick up weapons like knives and machine guns dropped by enemies, which makes a huge difference in crowd control. The game is pretty tough; enemies swarm you, and health items are scarce. It feels raw and urgent, like a desperate scramble for freedom.
