Game Overview

Pac-Man (Tengen) on NES is pretty much what you'd expect—classic maze-chomping with those four relentless ghosts. The controls feel a little stiff compared to the arcade version, but it's still satisfying when you pull off a tight corner dodge just before Blinky catches you.

The power pellets turn the tables in a way that never gets old. Watching the ghosts panic and scatter when you eat one, then hunting them down for extra points, is still one of the best power reversals in gaming. Though sometimes the regenerating ghosts respawn right on top of you, which feels cheap.

Those little intermission cutscenes between levels are a nice touch—Pac-Man and the ghosts acting out silly little stories. It's a small thing, but it gives the game personality beyond just high scores.

If you're looking for the pure arcade experience, this isn't quite it, but Pac-Man (Tengen) holds up as a solid NES version of the classic.
