I picked up Pac-Mania for the Sega Genesis back in 1991, a Namco release that felt like a solid attempt to bring the arcade's isometric style home. It was a time when familiar arcade properties were getting bigger, more complex treatments on home consoles, and this one tried to stand out with its perspective and new moves. It wasn't the most talked-about game on the system, but it had its own distinct flavor among the maze chases.

You control Pac-Man through a series of multi-tiered, scrolling mazes, gobbling dots while being pursued by the usual ghost crew. The main goal is still to clear each stage of all pellets, but the big addition is the jump button. You can leap over ghosts to avoid them, which completely changes the old evasion tactics. The ghosts eventually learn to jump too, turning the mazes into a frantic game of vertical chicken. The pacing is relentless; the isometric view makes judging distances tricky, and the screen scrolls to follow you, which can sometimes box you into a corner with nowhere to run. It feels like a constant, tense calculation of risk and escape routes.
