Paladins Quest came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Copya System. It was one of those mid-lifecycle RPGs that tried to do things a little differently, arriving after many of the system's foundational hits but before the late-gen powerhouses. It doesn't have the name recognition of some other titles from that era, but it carved out its own quiet space.

You control a young hero named Lennus who must gather a party of mercenaries to stop a world-ending threat. The main objective involves exploring a large world map, navigating through towns and dungeons screen by screen. Two mechanics define the experience: you hire party members from various races, each with unique magic, and your entire squad shares a single pool of hit points, making every random encounter a calculated risk. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you don't manage your resources carefully. It feels like a methodical, sometimes punishing journey where every decision carries weight.
