Play Paladins Quest Online
Your whole squad shares one health bar, so every fight feels tense—especially when you're broke and begging lizardfolk to join you for their magic. Moody synths and chunky sprites make the jank kinda charming.

Paladins Quest (or Lennus if you're feeling fancy) is one of those SNES RPGs that somehow slipped under the radar—probably because it does things so differently. Instead of individual health bars, your whole party shares one big pool of HP and MP, which means every heal or spell cast is a gamble. Run low, and suddenly that random encounter feels way more stressful than it should.
The magic system’s wild too—your spells depend entirely on which races you recruit, and good luck affording them at first. Half the early game is scraping together gold just to bribe some lizardman to join your cause. The soundtrack’s all moody synths, the story’s got ancient machines and war drama, and the battles pop with these chunky, exaggerated sprites. It’s janky in places, but that weirdness is exactly why it sticks with you.
If you’ve played every Final Fantasy and want something darker and weirder, this is your fix. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy for the confusing bits.
