Hudson Soft released Panic Bomber in 1994 for arcades, a time when puzzle games were thriving alongside fighting and platform titles. It stood out as a competitive, fast paced take on the genre, using Bomberman's familiar characters in a completely different style of play.
You control Bomberman, dropping colored bombs onto a grid to create matches of three or more of the same color. The main objective is to clear your own screen before your opponent's garbage blocks overwhelm you. Key mechanics include setting off chain reactions for massive combos and sending the resulting garbage to your rival's side. The pacing is frantic, with the speed increasing as you progress, demanding quick decisions under pressure. It feels like a tense, back and forth struggle where one good combo can completely turn the match around.
