Penguins of Madagascar for the Nintendo DS came out in 2010, published by THQ. It was a pretty standard licensed game for the platform, fitting right in with that era's wave of cartoon and movie tie-ins. You get to play as the four penguins from the show, each with their own little quirks and abilities.
You control Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private, switching between them to get through levels. The main goal is to complete missions by sneaking around, avoiding guards, and solving environmental puzzles. Each penguin has a specific skill; Kowalski uses gadgets, Rico swallows items and spits them back out, Private distracts enemies with cuteness, and Skipper leads the team. You tap the touch screen to interact with objects, slide through pipes, and sometimes use the DSi camera to scan barcodes for unlockables. The pacing is brisk, with short levels that keep things moving, though some sections can feel a bit repetitive. It captures the silly, fast-paced energy of the show without taking itself too seriously.
