Ocean Software released PGA European Tour on the Game Boy in 1994, a time when handheld golf games were rare and often simplified. It was one of the few attempts to bring a full, licensed golf simulation to the small screen, competing with other sports titles that prioritized quick play over depth.
You control a golfer through a full 18-hole tournament, selecting clubs and judging wind before each shot. The core mechanics involve a two-step power meter; you press a button to start the meter, then press again to set the power and a third time to determine accuracy. The challenge comes from timing those button presses perfectly under changing wind conditions. It feels tense and deliberate, demanding real concentration on every swing.
