Game Overview

I first played Phantasie on the Amiga back in 1985, a game published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was one of those early RPGs that really showed what the platform could do, fitting right in with the era's growing interest in deeper, more complex adventures. You didn't just run and jump; you built a party and planned your moves, which felt fresh at the time.

You control a custom party of up to six characters, venturing through towns, wilderness, and multi-level dungeons from an overhead perspective. The main goal is to defeat the evil wizard Nikademus and his Black Knights. Exploration happens screen by screen, with turn-based combat that lets you choose specific attacks, like swinging a sword or firing a bow. You manage gold, which must be stored in towns to avoid loss, and deal with various enemy types that keep you on your toes. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be steep, especially in later dungeons. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes punishing journey where every decision carries weight.
