Phantasie came out in 1985 from Strategic Simulations, Inc., one of those early MS-DOS RPGs that felt like a direct port from someone's graph paper campaign. It didn't try to wow you with graphics; it was just you, your party, and a lot of dark hallways to map by hand.
You control a custom party of up to six adventurers, diving into dungeons screen by screen to hunt down the evil wizard Nikademus. Combat is turn-based and unforgiving, with positioning mattering as much as your equipment. You'll spend a lot of time managing spells, searching for secret doors, and praying your front line holds. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty ensures every victory feels earned. It feels like solving a dangerous, persistent puzzle with swords and sorcery.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
