Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus came out in 1988 for MS-DOS, developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was part of that wave of early computer RPGs that relied on imagination and tactical thinking rather than flashy graphics. You could feel the ambition in its design, even if the technology of the time kept things simple on the surface.

You control a party of up to six adventurers, guiding them across an overworld map and into turn based, row oriented combat. Your goal is to defeat the evil wizard Nikademus, which involves exploring towns, gathering clues, and delving into dangerous dungeons. Key mechanics include managing your party's formation during fights (front row fighters take most of the hits) and using a magic system where spells are found as items in the world. The game moves at a steady pace, but it can be quite difficult if you aren't careful with your resources. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes punishing challenge where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
