Play Phantom 2040 on Snes Online
Swing through a grimy cyberpunk city with a grappling hook, sneaking past corporate goons and unlocking different paths that actually change how the story ends. That factory level with the hidden switch still haunts me.

Phantom 2040 on SNES is one of those weirdly good licensed games based on the cartoon—way better than it had any right to be. You play as Kit Walker, the latest in a long line of masked vigilantes, swinging through a cyberpunk-ish Metropia that’s basically collapsing under corporate greed and biotech disasters.
The first thing you’ll notice? The art style holds up surprisingly well—lots of moody blues and purples, with this grimy futuristic vibe. And the gameplay’s a mix of platforming and light puzzle-solving, where you’ve got a grappling hook (always fun) and a bunch of gadgets to mess with. The levels branch, too, so you can take different paths and actually get different endings. I remember getting stuck for ages in one factory level because I kept missing a hidden switch.
Rebicca Madison makes for a solid villain—just the right amount of over-the-top corporate evil—and the whole "multiple endings" thing gives it some replay value. It’s not perfect (some of the platforming’s janky), but for a 90s tie-in game? Way more interesting than most.
