Pieces came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Hori Electric. It was a puzzle game that felt right at home on the system, a straightforward concept that didn't try to compete with the big action or RPG titles of the era. You just sat down with it, ready for something a little different.
You control a cursor to pick up and drop jigsaw pieces onto their correct outlines on a large, scrolling board. The main goal is to complete each picture before a timer runs out. The challenge comes from managing the growing pile of loose pieces, strategically placing them to clear space, and dealing with special power-up items that can either help you by automatically fitting a piece or hinder you by scrambling the board. The pacing is methodical but can get frantic as the clock winds down. It feels like a quiet, focused test of your spatial reasoning that can suddenly turn into a mad scramble.
