I picked up Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003. Pocket Studios developed it, and it was one of those licensed games that tried to capture the movie's spirit on a handheld. The GBA had a lot of these action adventures at the time, often side-scrolling affairs with simple mechanics. This one fit right in, offering a straightforward take on the film's story without too much fuss.

You control Will Turner, moving through levels screen by screen, fighting skeletons and other enemies with your sword. The main goal is to rescue Elizabeth and break the curse on the Black Pearl's crew. Combat involves timing your slashes and parries, and you also get to use a bow for ranged attacks in some sections. The pacing is fairly quick, though some enemy patterns take a few tries to learn. It feels like a solid, no-nonsense action game that gets you right into the pirate life.
